The European Commission has presented a wide-ranging package of measures aimed at accelerating the creation of a European Education Area by 2025.Euro App Mobility welcomes the recognition of apprentice mobility as an essential element in achieving this goal in the recommendation “Europe on the move – apprenticeship mobility opportunities for all”. It is now up to us to call on the Member States to approve this text and, in the process, create the conditions for achieving the ambitious target of at least 15% of apprentices from vocational streams benefiting from a mobility experience within the EU by 2030.

The recommendation highlights both the added value and the obstacles to the mobility of vocational apprentices that have been identified by Euro App Mobility, first in the context of a pilot project, and then as part of its actions to facilitate apprentice mobility, notably by promoting the concept of mobility coordinators, improving mutual recognition of qualifications and valuing the work of those across Europe who prepare and implement apprentice mobility projects and activities.

For Jean Arthuis, this recommendation confirms that apprentice mobility is one of the strategic levers for attracting new talent to key sectors of our economy, thanks to concrete European experience. It also helps to promote European values and develop the soft skills that are essential to help our young people evolve in today’s world. EAM is ready to draw on its experience in training and creating communities of mobility coordinators to respond to the European Commission’s call, develop networks of mobility coordinators across Europe and strengthen recognition of their key role in facilitating apprentice mobility.
